Stunning and masterful. Shades and subtle tints are beguiling. Perfectly healthy plants. Nymphaea, while jaw-dropping, is too dominant. The trick with Nymphaea, besides trimming for shape is to keep it slightly underfed, without which it can overtake the largest tanks. Syngonanthus in back left would have been better replaced with a tall fuzzy Limnophila. The close up shot of the Rotala with its pink hues is sublime. The ends are not as refined as the middle. This underscores a rarely discussed element of this style – how to bring a scape to a smooth conclusion on either side of the tank. Whatever is going on there behind the Nymphoides is making me feel excluded. Would like to see a little more breathing room between groups. There are two grassy plants on the left, yet, I wish I had more somewhere on the right. The open spaces between the green stems in the back lets me see the moss wall is appreciated because it adds a feeling of depth. The Ludwigia street is clever, in-your-face, and novel, but I bet it didnt look that behaved the next morning. The juicy, richness of the Ludwigia suggests a high nutrient environment, but that is also what must make the scape labor-intensive and a little less ‘viable.’ This student gets an A because they pulled an all-nighter and crammed for the test but viability is questionable without intense and frequent trimming. Viability aside, this is the best entry in this judge’s opinion. Congratulations.
